Evaluation Types

Here at Milestones, we offer different evaluation packages/pricing.

Comprehensive Evaluation

During a comprehensive evaluation, our experienced speech-language pathologists assess various components of speech and language. We evaluate speech production, including articulation, fluency, and voice quality, to identify any difficulties in producing clear and intelligible speech sounds. Additionally, we assess language skills, including receptive and expressive language abilities, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics, to understand how well your child understands and uses language to communicate.

By conducting a comprehensive evaluation, we can identify any speech or language challenges your child may be facing. This allows us to tailor our therapy approach to target their specific needs effectively. Whether your child struggles with articulating sounds, understanding language, or expressing themselves clearly, our evaluations provide valuable insights that guide our therapy plans.

Speech Evaluation

During this evaluation, our experienced speech-language pathologists assess your child’s ability to produce speech sounds accurately and identify any patterns of errors known as phonological processes. We examine speech production across various contexts, including single words, sentences, and connected speech, to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s speech abilities. By analyzing your child’s speech production, we can identify any phonological processes that may be impacting their intelligibility and communication skills.

A speech sound/phonological processes evaluation is essential for children who demonstrate persistent difficulty in producing certain speech sounds or patterns. It provides valuable insights that guide our therapy approach, allowing us to develop targeted interventions to address your child’s specific needs and support their speech development.

If you notice that your child struggles to pronounce certain sounds or if their speech is difficult to understand, a speech sound/phonological processes evaluation can provide clarity and direction for intervention.

Language Evaluation

Language evaluations are for children of all ages, including infants and toddlers who may not yet have language. Our evaluations are like a friendly check-up for your child’s communication skills, from their very first babble to their adolescent years. During the evaluation, our team of speech-language pathologists engages with your child through play and observation to assess their early communication skills. We look at how they communicate nonverbally, such as through gestures, eye contact, and vocalizations, to understand their early language development.

You might want a language evaluation for your little one if you have concerns about their early communication development. Whether your child is struggling to make eye contact, respond to their name, or engage in back-and-forth communication, our evaluations can provide valuable insights and guidance for early intervention. Early evaluation is key to identifying any potential language delays or difficulties and getting your child the support they need to thrive.

Fluency Evaluation

Our fluency evaluations are designed to assess your child’s speech patterns and identify any disruptions or challenges in their fluency. We observe how your child speaks in different situations and contexts to understand the nature and severity of their fluency difficulties.

You may want to seek a fluency evaluation for your child if you notice them struggling with interruptions or hesitations in their speech, repetitions of sounds or words, or tension or struggle behaviors while talking. Early evaluation and intervention can help your child develop strategies to manage their fluency challenges and communicate with confidence.

Feeding/Swallowing Evaluation

During these evaluations, our compassionate team of speech-language pathologists assesses your child’s feeding and swallowing abilities, paying close attention to any sensory aversions or picky eating behaviors. We observe how your child interacts with different textures, flavors, and temperatures of food, as well as their oral motor skills and swallowing function. You may want to seek a pediatric feeding and swallowing evaluation for your child if you notice they have:

  • Difficulty tolerating certain textures or flavors of food
  • Strong reactions, such as gagging or vomiting, to certain foods
  • Limited variety in their diet or refusal to try new foods
  • Difficulty with breast or bottle feeding
  • Slow or inefficient eating habits
  • Weight loss or poor growth related to feeding challenges
